Tooth whitening (or tooth bleaching) is a process that lightens discolorations on your teeth. While there are many products and techniques for whitening your teeth, including store-bought take-home kits, Dr. Sands offers the Zoom! System, a fast, highly effective, in-office whitening system.

The process uses a gel containing hydrogen peroxide and a special light to activate it. It takes about an hour. It is safe and fast and you will see dramatic results immediately, without taking bleaching kits home and seeing the difference more gradually. With good dental hygiene, the results can last for years, especially if you avoid eating or drinking heavily-pigmented foods and drinks. The pigment in cola drinks, coffee, and berries, for example, will gradually discolor your teeth – although some of this can be removed by our dental hygienist when you come for your regular professional cleanings.

Tooth Bleaching Kits for Home Use

Dr. Sands also offers take-home kits if you would prefer to whiten your teeth at home. Unlike the store-bought kits, these will have custom-made trays to fit snugly over your teeth. With generic trays, the bleaching gel can leak out and be swallowed; and saliva can dilute the whitening gel. With our kits, you can also control the degree of whiteness -- just keep using it until your teeth are the color you want. We will show you how to use the kit.
